In Lake Castor, a town in which the old mill has closed and all the jobs have vanished, the blame for a countywide murder spree lies at the feet of three people broken by life and their own choices: Calvin, a killer; London, a cook; and Rhonda, the woman who loves them both. Pulled together by lust, greed, ambition, and a deranged quest for notoriety, they cut a bloody trail through this Southern Gothic noir that adds a transgressive, chicken-fried twist to a story ripped straight from the pages of a true crime novel or an episode of Dateline NBC.

Every once in a while, literature offers us a story that champions the spirit of humanity.

This is not that story.

Check out this foundational work from Southern Noir superstar, Eryk Pruitt, now available through Rock and a Hard Place Press! If you don’t already have a copy, you’re going to want to get one . . . and if you do have a copy, make sure you get the Rock and a Hard Place edition!

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING:

“…a rural roman noir, a dark comedy with a touch of Southern Gothic, and satire without hitting the reader over the head to make its point. It's also a serial-killer story for readers who hate serial-killer stories…”

- Peter Rozovsky, Detectives Beyond Borders

“…The main strength of DIRTBAGS is its violent brand of satire… DIRTBAGS will always remain a cult novel…”

- Benoir Lelievre, Dead End Follies

“…If you've ever wondered what would happen if American Psycho accidentally copulated with No Country for Old Men… Dirtbags is your baby.”

- Khalid Patel, Hollow Shotguns
